Rapper Bow Wow Arrested for Alleged Assault

The rapper known as Bow Wow, who has returned to using his birth name Shad Moss, is best-remembered for his music career and his time on reality television. But the Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta star recently found his name in the news for all the wrong reasons after being arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

At approximately 4:15 a.m., the Atlanta Police Department was called to a residence for a domestic disturbance. According to the police report, Moss’ ex-girlfriend and Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta co-star Leslie Holden claimed that Moss had assaulted her. Moss claimed to officers that he was, in fact, the victim of the assault, and alleged that Holden had hit him with a lamp.

According to a statement issued by police, “Both parties did sustain visible minor injuries. Officers were unable to determine the primary aggressor of the altercation, so both parties were charged with battery.” Both parties involved in the incident were taken to the Fulton County Jail to be processed.

Legal counsel for Shad Moss also released a statement, claiming Leslie was the aggressor and intoxicated at the time of the incident. “Shad Bow Wow Moss was wrongfully arrested earlier this morning for the first time after being beaten by an out-of-control intoxicated female, Ms. Leslie Holden, in an Atlanta condominium,” read the statement from Moss’ legal team. Representatives from Holden and Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta have yet to issue a statement.

Fighting a Battery Charge

Shad Moss is not the first person to be arrested for battery despite alleging the other party was the aggressor. In fact, it is common for police to respond to a domestic disturbance and simply arrest both parties instead of conducting a proper investigation. Unfortunately, this often leads to a person merely defending themselves from a violent aggressor to be charged with a crime.

You are entitled to defend yourself when threatened with violence, and doing so is not a crime. Be that as it may, in many cases the prosecutor will be unable to see the full picture of what occurred. This is especially true when there were no independent witnesses present, as your case will come down to your word versus your alleged victims. This is a tough position for anyone to be in. Luckily, hiring an experienced criminal defense attorney can help you fight the charges against you.
